Jera Meaning

Jera is the 12th rune of the Elder Futhark, it’s middle and a turning point. Jera is the rune connected with time and cycles, and Nature cycle itself. Its really powerful as it can influence one of the most mysterious matters – time. Jera’s place is opposite with Dagaz – the rune finishing the Elder Futhark and runes circle.

Jera week was not an easy one, but clearly a move for the better from Isa. There was lots of work and things to be done, but the circumstances worked in favor and everything got done eventually. This reminds me of one of Jera meanings- harvests, getting results for your work. Many people view it as extremely positive but they forget the work aspects: Jera is not the gift or luck, it’s a result of hard work, nothing comes from nowhere – it’s Jera’s message.

Magically Jera is connected with time and can help to slow or quicken processes. The most straightforward use here is to get on time. I’ve used Jera to not get late a couple of times and it worked. Of course Jera would not take you 1000 miles in an hour, but you can miraculously get in time with no traffic jams, lucky bus outside of a timetable, etc. I think there’s a bigger potential here, but time is not easy to work with, so be careful.

Jera is the only rune that consists of two separate not connected parts, and it splits the Futhark in two parts. The last rune Dagaz is, on the contrary, fully connected in the closed cycle, symbolizing and resembling eternity sign. Both runes mean changes, but changes in Jera are more gradual, evolutionary, while Dagaz changes are revolutionary, end of one cycle and start of the new one. I’ve got Dagaz in divination in Jera week a lot, and I thing it shows that gradual changes will prepare way for the major leap, that is not far away.

Jera itself in divination usually means wait for me. It should be positive, but far from quickly. Also, if you got Jera, waiting and doing what you can is usually the best option, don’t rush, it will do no good, just wait for the harvest, it’s never quick.
