Berkana meaning

Berkana week was a direct opposite of the Teiwaz – positive, mild and mostly uneventful. But the events that did occur were good and it was a real relax after the Teiwaz week. I think it shows the connection, or rather opposition of the Teiwaz and Berkana runes that form a balanced system together.

Berkana is a Goddess’ rune and a womens’ rune in general. Some authors notice that Berkana’s form reminds us of women’ breasts, when turned horizontally. In my opinion, Berkana being a womens’ rune makes the runes order in Futhark easier to understand. The last Att starts with the mens’ rune Teiwaz and continues with the womens’ rune Burkina. I would not go far in the future, but the next two runes Ewaz and Mannaz can be interpreted as cooperation and synthesis.

Other interesting thing about Berkana is that its form is nearly exactly that of English B letter. Not many of the runes form stayed intact in the alphabet, but Berkana did. Some of Berkana meanings are also starting with B: breasts, breed, birch.

Berkana ancient association with birch is well known and can be understood in a wider sense – it can help you with plants and their growth. I’ve used Berkana to help the houseplant grow, writing Berkana on the flowerpot. It grew much quicker and even blossomed. The only downside here is Berkana energy is addictive – when moved to the other pot it withered. So it’s safer to use Berkana for growth in formulas with other runes that will balance it’s influence

Using Berkana for a gentle growing can be used for ideas, plans and nearly anything that can be associated with the fresh sprouts. Using it together with Uruz will make the poor balanced and the formula more stable.

For me, there’s not much to say about Berkana week, other that some great things for the next week started then and the seeds from Berkana week grew successfully!
