Algiz is the rune of protection, and when you receive Algiz as an answer in deviation it means you are safe, Gods are protecting you, so you know it’s going to be ok. Algiz is a very positive rune, and more then once I got Algiz in seemingly dangerous and very unstable situations. Getting Algiz made me feel safe and miraculously all those situations ended well, the dangers passed by, and it was fine in the end.
The Algiz week was mainly that – safe and calm period, allowing to recharge. It came after a very complicated and bumpy week, and helped me to feel better and get better. Algiz is not just protection, I would say Algiz is a divine protection, coming from Gods. And this makes it even more strange and wrong using reversed Algiz as peace symbol. I intuitively didn’t like it even before I’ve read abut runes, it just didn’t feel right. Now knowing Algiz meaning it looks even more strange. I can’t be sure if it was done on purpose, but be very careful with the so called peace symbol – it excludes you from the protection leaving totally on your own and vulnerable. In ancient times reversed Algiz was used on the burial places to mark the death date. Wearing such symbol on clothes looks like a really bad idea. And it brings us to the second Algiz meaning – life, as the birth date was marked with Algiz.
Algiz form itself resembles a tree, with the branches looking up in the sky, that is an often symbol of life. From the ancient times, the person who asks protection from the Up, the Gods, has raised hands to the sky, thus forming Algiz rune. If you want to feel Algiz energy better, just stand with your hands up, forming Algiz with your body and look at the sky. You’ll feel the connection.
One other interesting idea is comparing Algiz form with the birds footprints. Birds fly in the sky, so they are also often connected to the Upperworld. Thus Algiz can also be a message that will help you to stay safe. All you have to do is listen carefully- there’s a sign somewhere near.
As I’m writing this now, finishing the next Sowilo week, I can add that everything started and planned in the Algiz week successfully concluded in this one. So while you should not expect fireworks from Algiz, you can be sure, you’re are safe and your undertakings would be fine. The Algiz place here in Futhark, after the major shift of the Eihwaz just before the victory rune of Sowilo is not a coincidence – it’s a cycle and all steps there are important.
