A Leadership Program That Doesn't Insult Your Intelligence

Skald is structured, challenging, and built for leaders who want substance over slogans. Here's exactly what you'll work through and what you'll walk away with.

Who This Program Serves

Skald is built for people in the middle of one of the hardest transitions in a professional career: the shift from individual contributor to people leader.

You might be newly promoted into a supervisory or team lead role, trying to figure out what actually changed when you got the title. You might be a year or two in, past the initial adrenaline, now dealing with the reality that the skills that earned you the promotion aren't the same skills that will make you effective in the role. Or you might have done other leadership training and walked away knowing there had to be something more honest than what you were given.

Wherever you are in that spectrum, Skald meets you there. The program doesn't assume you're starting from zero, and it doesn't pretend leadership is something you can master in a weekend workshop.

Eight Modules Built Around Real Challenges

Each module tackles a specific challenge that new leaders face, grounded in research across psychology, systems thinking, narrative theory, and real-world leadership practice. The content isn't theoretical; it connects directly to decisions you're making with your team right now.

The Real Leadership Transition

Getting the title doesn't mean you got the job. The playbook that earned you the promotion is the same one you have to put down, and your old strengths are now what you're trying to develop in other people. This module names what shifted, why it shifted, and the three personal costs every new leader pays on the way through. You'll use the Role Shift Continuum to see where you actually are between doing the work, directing the work, and developing the people who do it. You'll leave with a 90-day transition plan you wrote yourself.

Your Leadership Compass

Values are easy to write on the wall. They're hard to hold when the pressure is on and the easy call would be invisible to everyone except you. This module is about the version of integrity that shows up on a Tuesday afternoon, one decision at a time. You'll define the values you actually lead by, run them through a structured filter on real decisions, and find your weak link. That's the specific point in your chain where you're most likely to skip a step under pressure. The map shows you where you are. The compass shows you which way to go when the map stops helping.

Trust That Holds

Trust runs your team. It's what decides whether they tell you the truth, commit to a call they don't like, or raise the hard issue before it becomes a crisis. This module breaks down the trust equation: credibility, reliability, care, divided by self-interest. You'll learn which variable is dragging your balance down, how to spend trust deliberately when you need to, and how to repair it when you break it. Because you will.

Coach, Don't Fix

Most new leaders fix instead of coach. It's faster, it stays in the part of the job you were already good at, and it feels like getting things done. The problem is your team learns to bring you everything and figure out nothing on their own. This module gives you the Coaching Continuum to match how you respond to where your person actually is, a conversation structure that builds capability instead of just clearing the work, and a feedback model specific enough to act on. Fixing creates dependency. Building creates ownership.

Accountability Without Fear

Accountability gets a bad reputation because most leaders either avoid it or deliver it in ways that wreck trust. The real problem is simpler than that. Avoidance reads as kindness to the leader and confusion to the team. When the standard is unclear or applied unevenly, every conversation about it lands as personal. This module reframes accountability as protection instead of punishment, and gives you the four-step cycle to run it: clarify, support, address, recognize. You'll leave with the skill to hold the line without burning the relationship.

Reading Your Team

Most team problems don't announce themselves. They show up as low-grade friction, who speaks in meetings and who doesn't, jokes that don't quite land, patterns that seem minor until they become cultural. This module zooms out from leading individuals to leading the team as a system. You'll learn the Team Health Triangle (Clarity, Connection, Consistency) and use it to diagnose where your team is weakest right now. You'll also see which behaviours you're tolerating that are quietly shaping the culture you'll inherit six months from now. Every team problem maps to one of the three corners. The diagnostic is the intervention.

Change Reveals Leadership

Change is neutral. The uncertainty is what hurts, and the leaders who try to kill the uncertainty instead of clearing up the confusion lose the room. This module treats resistance as information, not defiance. You'll learn the Zone of Control to figure out where to spend your energy, and the Transition Conversation framework (Acknowledge, Ask, Align, Act) for meeting people where they actually are instead of where you wish they were. Every prior module gets tested here. This is the stress test.

The Through-Line

Strategic thinking at your level isn't writing five-year plans or forecasting markets. It's making the connections between your team's daily work, why the org exists, and the leader you've been building for the last seven modules. This is the through-line of the entire program. You'll trace the work back to purpose using the Alignment Chain, run new initiatives through a Strategic Check before you commit, and close the loop on the question you answered in Module 1. Plans get outdated. The connections you build here don't.

The Story Log

Every module asks you to make decisions, name what you see, and commit to something specific. The Story Log is where all of that lives. It's your running record of leadership reflections, decisions, and growth across the entire program. You're building the document that tracks who you're becoming as a leader, written in your own words, one module at a time. By the end of the program, your Story Log is the clearest proof of the work you've done and the leader you've built.

The Map

This is where it all comes together. The closing capstone pulls everything you've built across the program into a single document. Your values, your trust model, your coaching instincts, your accountability standard, how you read your team, how you navigate change, how you connect daily work to purpose. You'll synthesize it into one artifact that represents the leader you've become through the work, not a certificate that says you showed up. The Map is yours. It travels with you into every role, every team, and every hard call that comes next.

How the Program Works

Skald is delivered as focused micro-lessons. Each module runs roughly an hour of total content, built for working leaders who can't clear a calendar for a full-day workshop and don't want to.

Each module includes video, reference materials you can return to, and applied practice exercises that connect directly to your real team and real challenges. This is not hypothetical casework. The practice is built around situations you're already navigating. Work through it at your own pace, revisit as needed.

What Changes After This Program

Skald is not designed to make you feel inspired for a week and then fade into the background of your inbox. It is designed to change how you operate.

Leaders who complete the program walk away with a clear understanding of the identity shift that leadership demands, values they can hold under pressure, and practical tools for the conversations that matter most. They understand how trust works as a system, how to read what's really happening in their team, and how to navigate upward pressure without losing themselves in it.

More importantly, they walk away with a story they've written deliberately rather than one they inherited by default. That story becomes the foundation for every leadership decision they make going forward.
